Leggett & Platt, Inc. is seeking aR&D Engineerfor our Product Development team in the Adjustable Bed Division. In this role, you will develop innovative product concepts and features, create prototypes, validate solutions, participate in project teams, and support processes to transition concepts into product development programs for production launch. You will have the opportunity to engage with many areas of the business unit including sales, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support. This position can be located in Lenexa, KS or Carthage, MO.
What you’ll do:
Develop innovative design concepts for electro-mechanical adjustable beds utilizing a combination of 3D modeling, conventional prototyping, and rapid prototyping processes
Validate designs using Analytical Calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE) to ensure design robustness to meet project goals
Conduct competitor product benchmarking and monitor industry trends
Drive modular design architecture for electronic and mechanical systems to meet cost, quality and Design For Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) goals
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to develop new product concepts, features, systems, and application of new or novel materials solutions
Evaluate applicability, design, and test alternative materials (specifically metals and polymers) and develop associated design requirements of those materials
Develop empirical test equipment, procedures, and tools to evaluate designs and simulate real world customer use cases
Support complete system level and component level testing to validate product designs meet project goals
Present proposals, results, and recommendations to project teams, senior leadership, and customers
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor of Science in relevant Engineering or STEM field
5+ years of new product development engineering experience
Experience in analyzing mechanical properties of metals and/or polymers
Demonstrated experience in many of the listed responsibilities
A willingness to travel domestically and internationally, at times with limited notice
Strong presentation and communication skills
Strong project management skills
Proficiency with 3D CAD software tools, preferably SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) software tools, preferably SolidWorks PDM Pro.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree
Six Sigma certification
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Commitment to lifelong learning
