Summary The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking two highly qualified Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics for the Facilities Department. In accordance with 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, EPA approved universal certificate is required. Employees working in this type of position must have and maintain proper EPA Certification. Responsibilities The incumbent serves as a member of the Facilities Team. The incumbent performs maintenance, makes repairs, and installs refrigeration, air conditioning, and control equipment that includes but is not limited to air handler units, exhaust fans, cooling towers, condensation return systems, steam for heat and humidity associated with conditioning of the air, pumps, fan coil units, induction units, air compressors, air dryers, and heat recovery systems. Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following; Use technical materials, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications to perform tasks Determine the necessary supplies to complete a job Use refrigerant recovery and evacuation systems Perform maintenance on a variety of climate control systems at a journeyman level Recognize and use tools of the trade to accomplish work Work Schedule: Full-Time Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Overtime and occasional nights and weekends may be required. Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD02067A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to routinely lift items weighing in excess of 50 pounds and will occasionally position heavy equipment weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Incumbent will be required to wear a respirator when necessary. Incumbent works indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather, from ladders, in ceiling areas, in cramped spaces, and in areas where there is the potential of being exposed to noise, hazardous gases, hazardous materials, and refrigerants. Incumbent has the potential for possible exposure to contagious diseases when removing, cleaning, and replacing filters. Ductwork, or equipment located in treatment areas. Incumbent uses acids and other corrosive compounds in water treatment and cleaning operations. Incumbent is subject to callback overtime and night and on weekends to provide vital Medical Center functions pertaining to proper environmental control, refrigeration, cooling, heating. Ventilation, and air conditioning support. Incumbent will wear a respirator and other appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety instructions and regulations of Federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, the trade, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
