Job Summary:

The Enterprise Architect (Locomotive) is a specialist with in-depth knowledge of the technology components and systems within the freight locomotive environment. The focus is on functional design and configuration of the locomotive architecture, and on providing complex technical support to this critical strategic asset. Areas of expertise include commercial off the shelf applications, specific architecture view across multiple business solutions and technology infrastructure for the domain. The Enterprise Architect (Locomotive) will work in various delivery projects, including Positive Train Control, Energy Management, Advanced Train Control and Autonomous Train Operations. The Enterprise Architect (Locomotive) will ensure the completeness (fitness-for-purpose) of the technology that addresses the company’s strategic vision and direction, stakeholder concerns, maintain integrity of the architecture, and reconcile considerations of information security, performance, scalability, etc.

Job Duties:

  • Architects systems including design, functionality, communications and interfaces for the advanced train control systems.

  • Provides technical solutions for the advanced train control systems per requirements provided by the industry and objectives of the company.

  • Oversees and guides the configuration and testing of the advance train control systems along with validation of installation plans and/or automation scripts.

  • Provides oversight and assistance with software upgrade packages and/or plans.

  • Provides Tier 3 support for the advanced train control systems.

  • Remains current in knowledge of industry and technology trends by participating in industry advanced train control panels and committees.

  • Works with vendors to help influence product roadmaps/development plans to provide KCS strategic value.

  • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • Ten (10) years of IT technical and/or infrastructure architecture experience

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering discipline

  • Networking and Information Security

  • Storage Architecture solutions

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents

  • Ability to effectively present information in small groups to customers and KCS employees

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to apply operations to such tasks as variance and correlation techniques

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
