The Digital Center of Excellence (DCOE) is the organization within Hallmark Technology that is responsible for:
Building a world-class, consumer-focused caring platform that enables Hallmark’s lines of business (LOB) across the enterprise (Crayola, Crown Media, Hallmark Global) to accelerate their direct-to-consumer product strategies
Developing a Cloud-first, multi-tenant digital platform that provides capabilities and services, such as a unified Hallmark Profile, Product Recommendations, Global Payment services, etc.
Building, securing and operating digital consumer products for Hallmark’s LOBs
Scaling development capabilities to build for Hallmark’s future
As a member of the DCOE group you'll partner with high functioning, high energy teams of cross-functional disciplines that bring products like Hallmark.com and our Hallmark Gold Crown Omnichannel network to life for our consumers. With a consumer-first focus this group delivers impactful digital solutions that have a direct impact on consumer brand engagement and retention in the digital space, which results in revenue growth and brand relevance.
What we're looking for:
You’re a hands-on Software Engineering Manager ready to join the DCOE’s Engineering team. Reporting the Head of Engineering, you’ll manage a team of front-end engineers and coordinate all activities related to developing web sites and applications for the DCOE. You must be familiar with the policies, procedures, process and technical issues related to software development. In addition, you’ll provide insight to cross-functional colleagues (e.g. Architecture, Product, UX, Security) about technical requirements and limitations encountered during development.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
Recruit, hire, mentor and manage a team of front-end engineers
Set attainable goals for team members in order for projects to be finished on time
Facilitate the agile development process and methodology to complete tech deliverables on time and with a high-degree of quality
Ensure appropriate procedures and processes are followed when it comes to software development
Represent the Engineering team in meetings
Foster career growth and cultivate a strong team culture
Work with the Head of Engineering to improve software processes and team culture, budget planning, and roadmap execution planning, converting ideas and vision into executable tasks and general technology strategy.
Work closely with Product to set the technical direction for the business and develop the engineering roadmap.
Estimate work effort and allocate engineering resources, enabling multiple simultaneous sprints across three functional products.
Drive rapid prototyping cycles from technical requirements, software designs, programming, debugging, and optimization.
Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers.
Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
Actively participate in code and design reviews.
Provide a comprehensive onboarding process for new engineers to acclimate them into the company development culture.
Manage escalations, production issues, and new product deployments to customers.
Interview, hire, and onboard new developers to the team.

You think that having intelligent data modeling conversations with a data architect sounds like fun
You enjoy refactoring code to reduce code complexity but understand delivery matters more than perfect code
You think in multi-threaded or multi-processor solutions
You know design patterns like the back of your hand and you chose which ones to use based on the task at hand, not just because one is popular at the moment
You are comfortable with performance tuning applications with tools like JMeter or Apache Bench
You prioritize mitigating security vulnerabilities as a part of your normal development process
You are not afraid of Data Oriented Design, in fact, kind of like it
You enjoy heads down coding, but also have great communication skills, love collaborating and are fun to work with

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, related technology field OR 4 years of professional work experience
7+ years of relevant software development experience
2+ years of software development management experience
4+ years of experience leading the development of web sites and web applications.
5+ years of experience as a software developer
Experience with modern web application development
Experience developing and executing a software roadmap
Experience managing front-end, back-end, and services-oriented software systems
Experience leading software engineering teams
Experience recruiting software engineers
Knowledge of software engineering best practices for the software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous integration, build processes, testing, and operations.
Experience with Agile development methodologies
Experience working with cloud hosted or virtual environments
Experience working with Service-oriented architecture (SOA) environments, microservices, and REST APIs
Experience in scaling applications
Experience mitigating security vulnerabilities
Familiarity with performance tuning applications with tools like Google Lighthouse
Ability to take a project from inception through launch.
Experience working with contemporary technology stacks
Comfortable working on small, cross-functional, fast paced teams
Excellent communication skills
