The Scrum Master II is a permanent member of a Scrum Team. This is a key role serving the Scrum Team in resolving impediments and managing the Scrum process, as well as coaching the team to high performance. The role is responsible for performing a wide range of duties training, facilitating, mentoring, coaching and optimizing the environment for Team performance.
The Scrum Master exemplifies the scrum values of focus, courage, openness, commitment, and respect and encourages growth and develops meaningful relationships and trust to help the Scrum Team adhere to Agile Principles. Servant-Leadership, organizational, and motivational strengths are essential.
The Scrum Master hired in this role should also understand and have experience in Project Management. In addition, the Scrum Master II is expected to maintain core principals including, but not limited to, continuous improvement, self-organization, adaptive planning, and value driven development using methodologies and frameworks such as LEAN, SCRUM, and KANBAN.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Provide support to the Scrum Team by practicing servant leadership and embodying Agile values and Scrum practices.
Promoting and coaching team self-organization, facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
Removing impediments for the Scrum Team; shielding the Team from outside distractions and interference
Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or judgement, with an emphasis on problem solving
Facilitating Scrum ceremonies, discussion, cooperation, decision making, and conflict resolution.
Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining and managing the product backlog
Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and setting stretch goals. In addition, the person hired in this role will participate in and/or lead Scrum adoption practices.
Project Management Skills will be utilized in this blended Scrum role.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent of 8 years of work experience in similar role.
4+ years of experience contributing to an Agile environment
2+ years as a Scrum Master
Scrum Master Certification required (e.g. CSM, PMI-ACP, PSM, CSP, CST)
Advanced understanding of Scrum principles, rules and practices is required
Friendly, effective communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to work in a dynamic environment
How to support Portfolio and Program Management and align with organizational goals
Strong situational awareness, coupled with facilitation, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
Working knowledge of Task Management/Issue Tracking software (such as JIRA, TFS, Rally), Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Work, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.
Knowledge of other frameworks used in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, SAFe, etc.
Knowledge and/or experience with Agile techniques: User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, Test-driven Development, Continuous Integration, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games is required
Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, task definition, definition of ready, definition of done, acceptance criteria
