Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Oncology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Washington University in St. Louis, Division of Oncology, in the laboratory of Dr. Jessica Silva-Fisher and the laboratory of Dr. David Spencer are seeking a Bioinformatics Research Assistant to assist with research projects involving the analysis, interpretation, and documentation of genomic data in the fields of hematological malignancies and breast cancer. Primary responsibilities will include development and implementation of data analysis tools and pipelines, processing of genomic data, data storage management, and assistance in preparing data for publication and submission to public databases. Applicants should be familiar with unix command line tools and proficient in scripting languages (e.g., python, PERL, or R). PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists research studies with implementation of: * Existing algorithms and computer software for analyzing omics-based data sets [high-throughput, massively parallel genomic/proteomic/clinical.] * Data management and analysis solutions that assist in storage, investigation, and dissemination of large data sets. 2. Works with research team to develop new algorithms to support studies. 3. Assists with reporting of methods, data, and results. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field; OR combined education and experience of five years. Preferred Qualifications * Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. * Comfortable with unix command line tools * Proficient in at least one scripting language (python, PERL, and/or R). * Good understanding of computational biology. * Ability to analyze and interpret large complex data sets, such as sequences, microarray gene expression studies, human genetic studies, and model organism studies, and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner. * Expertise in standard bioinformatics tools. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.
