Washington University of St. Louis Business Analyst III - Data Management - 51048 in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Provide off hours support, as needed. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Data Management. This position is for the Danforth Campus. There will be some activities that require trips to other university offices and offsite locations. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, responsible for supporting the Data Environment including performing data analysis, report requirements development, building strong relationship with reporting leads from various business domain with a strong focus to develop an understanding of the analytical needs of the University. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conduct data/work flow study and analyze business practices to understand data and analytics needs with in the business domain. 2. Document existing processes and data needs as they relate to information technology solutions. 3. Perform data lifecycle activities, including: * Maintain, test, and debug reports and reporting applications. * Follow established change management processes. * Facilitate code reviews. * Develop test plans and coordinate testing activities. * Make recommendations for hardware/software solutions. 4. Provide support * Create documents and support operational activities. * Coordinate with internal clients, software vendors and external service providers during specific activities. 5. Leadership * Provide, cultivate and foster excellent customer service. * Promote adherence to departmental standards. * Act as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff. 6. Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as computer science, plus two years of relevant technology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline. * Five years of relevant technology experience. * Experience in a higher education technology environment. * Good understanding of business requirements and reporting strategies. * Ability to work independently and also be a team player. * Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to technologies outside of current experience. * Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently. * Engaged in continuous improvement of internal processes and procedures. * Ability to consult with clients and higher level technicians and analysts to resolve technical problems and ensure customer satisfaction. * Ability to interact with customers to discuss alternative technical solutions. * Ability to work with only minimal supervision. * Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new circumstances. * Ability to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so. * Ability to adjust scheduled time. * Ability to adjust to change and demands on time. * Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively manage customer expectations. * Data Analyst (understands Databases, Tables, Indexes, Queries, etc.). * Report Writing (Cognos and/orTableau would be preferred). * Collecting and analyzing business requirements and transferring the knowledge to development team. * Evaluating and Analyzing data for business requirements. * Designing and executing the test scripts and test scenarios. * Coordinating with other team members during testing, validating, and evaluating new applications and functions. * Assist Data Team with defining and documenting Common Business Data Definitions. * General technical knowledge, aptitude and/or desire to learn new technical skills. * Possesses sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills. * Communicates effectively with users. * Demonstrates ability to prioritize conflicting demands. * Executes assigned project tasks within established schedule. * Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and mission of the organization. * Capable of ensuring the confidentiality and safety of proprietary, financial, personnel and strategic information. * Self-starter and able to solve complex problems and analysis without supervision. * Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. * Above average Microsoft Word/Excel skills. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $64,854 - $84,364 annually.
