Washington University of St. Louis Facilities Technician II (General Maintenance) - Building Services - 51856 in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Building Services. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Position is responsible for performing general maintenance to various building systems and supporting Facilities Maintenance Technicians at the School of Medicine. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs repairs to all lighting systems including exit lights, emergency lights, exterior lighting systems. 2. Manages lighting inventory and maintains compliance with EHS regulations regarding proper storage and disposal. 3. Performs minor repairs and PMs as requested by the supervisor. 4. Performs general repairs to all plumbing systems including faucets, urinals, toilets and toilet seats. 5. Clears minor drain blockages to sinks, floor drains, drinking fountains and toilets using plunger or toilet auger. 6. Perform removal and installation of damaged or missing ceiling tiles. 7. Perform bi-annual testing on all fume hoods, make necessary adjustments to airflow, calibrate monitor and/or coordinate repairs. 8. Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians with larger projects when necessary. 9. Communicate effectively through email and electronic work order system. 10. Cleans equipment as needed during repairs. Checks equipment storage areas and reports conditions to supervisor. 11. Performs tasks outside of job description in support of the Department and the School’s mission. 12. Maintains effective communication with other maintenance staff. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent high school certification. * Two years of experience in carpentry, plumbing and/or energy management. Preferred Qualifications * Technical certificate or degree would be an asset. * Good mechanical aptitude. * Ability to read and understand simple wiring diagrams is desirable. * Valid Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D driver’s license. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $19.18 - $24.47 per hour. Applicant Special Instructions JOB LOCATION/WORKING CONDITIONS/EQUIPMENT: * Must be able to lift and carry tools and materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds. * Position requires a considerable amount of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling and crouching to gain access to lights and equipment. * Must have good depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed for color coded wiring. * Works inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy. * Exposed to wet and cold conditions, as well as noise and vibration from operation equipment.
