Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides specialized work in supporting information technology equipment and systems for the business, research, and instructional functions of customers. Position involves the advanced use of software and/or hardware tools to provide ongoing services, and responsibilities require expertise with core infrastructure elements and how they interrelate to provide a cohesive computing environment. Position may be more broadly based, requiring knowledge regarding installation, and modification of software and hardware, testing, and documentation on a variety of platforms.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Gathers customer information and determines resolution path regarding moderately complex client issues by analyzing the symptoms and identifying/resolving the underlying problem.
  2. Escalates complex issues to higher level when necessary.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

FOR DEPARTMENT-LEVEL ENVIRONMENT WITH COMBINED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensures technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software. Primary activities include:
  2. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues for a variety of operating systems.
  3. Be familiar with Dell server and workstation hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  4. Be familiar or experienced with server virtualization technologies and dependent hardware/software stacks.
  5. Strong knowledge of unix-based operating systems with an emphasis on linux usage, optimization, and integration.
  6. Working knowledge of various linux containerization technologies.
  7. Train staff about potential uses of existing technology.
  8. Provide individual training and support on request.
  9. Support a wide variety of hardware and software (Windows/Linux) resources serving a mixed clinical/research organization.
  10. Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources.
  11. Working knowledge of common unix and Windows scripting languages.
  12. Monitors and maintains technology to ensure maximum access. Primary activities include:
  13. Troubleshoot all technology issues.
  14. Maintain log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance.
  15. Make recommendations about purchase of technology resources.
  16. Research current and potential resources and services.
  17. Connect and setup hardware.
  18. Load all required software.
  19. Provide network accounts and passwords as required.
  20. Monitor security of all technology.
  21. Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a 4-year college or university with a degree in IT or related field plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or a closely related field required; additional experience in any of these fields may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Planning and Organizing: Ability to apply technical judgment to plan and organize tasks to achieve desired outcomes and to effectively manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage highly complex projects that include software installation and migration.
  • Technical knowledge:Ability to make sophisticated modifications and modify complex operating software programming. In-depth knowledge of automated operations software and its functioning related to other software.
  • Technical Solution Development: Ability to identify trends in re-occurring problems and develop appropriate solutions. Knowledge of and ability to analyze operation performance to develop advanced solutions for improvement. Ability to analyze appropriate new technologies and determine implementation based on research.
  • Technical Support: Serves as a resource in solving problems of high complexity. Knowledge of advanced systems analysis and troubleshooting procedures to independently resolve problems.
  • Consultancy Skills: Ability to consult with senior level decision-makers on an on-going basis to develop long-range strategic alternatives. Ability to analyze and assess client needs to develop effective and appropriate solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong knowldege of unix-based Operating systems and Linux Usage, optimiazation and integration.
  • Familiar or experienced with server virtualization technologies and dependent hardware/software stacks.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $63,586 - $82,701 annually.
