This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases located at the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
2. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
3. Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
4. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
5. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
6. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training in the fields of microbiology, immunology and cell biology.
• Strong analytical reasoning, creative thinking and problem solving skills.
• Experience working with mice, such as genotyping and small animal procedures.
• Experience with aseptic technique, cell culture/isolation, flow cytometry, histology and tissue sectioning, PCR/cloning, and fluorescence microscopy.
• Some computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MATLAB, and Prism.
• Ability to learn new skills quickly, plan experiments and keep accurate research records.
• Enjoy working in a multidisciplinary setting with a diverse group of researchers.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
