Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pathology and Immunology, Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This position under the supervision of Drs. Dennis Dietzen and Nima Mosammaparast, assists with studies related to the biochemical characterization of pathology including cancer, inborn errors of metabolism, biliary disease, and mitochondrial disease. Experiments include immuno-detection of proteins, assessment of enzyme activity, as well as evaluation of drugs, amino acids, organic acids, and complex lipids using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. We are looking to expand our group of diverse, motivated, and curious individuals. This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists with research studies in a collaborative environment. 2. Maintains and troubleshoots sophisticated analytic equipment. 3. Prepares required reagents, buffers, calibrators, specimens, etc. 4. Carefully and critically collects, analyzes, and documents data. 5. Complies with established safety procedures for handling chemicals and biological specimens. 6. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 7. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or allied area. * Significant analytical chemistry experience, particularly in mass spectrometry. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
