Ameren Senior Data Engineer in St Louis, Missouri

About The Position

  • Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement. Analyzes and models data to understand complex business issues and provide insight to decision makers. Integrates data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements and pipelines. Develop/generate data solutions, pipelines that create analytics solutions for the business.

  • Leads enterprise-wide data integration, warehousing and modeling activities across platforms (Informatica and AWS)

  • Uses best practices in data engineering, data warehouse development and integration with enterprise systems (Informatica, Jenkins, GitHub and AWS)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develops complex data pipelines, and ad-hoc queries as requested by internal and external customers using Informatica

  • Conducts complex ETL processes and troubleshooting

  • Defines requirements for data pipeline solutions, leads data validation efforts to ensure data quality and match-back to core systems transaction results

  • Identifies and documents process for building data pipeline solutions across multiple complex areas of Ameren’s business (e.g., Distribution Control Center, Transmission, Gas Supply)

  • Utilizes deep understanding of large, critical data processing engines and emerging technologies to develop high level, technical data model plans and pipelines.

  • Builds large and complex data pipelines; partners with Data Scientists to ensure architectural and project specification needs are being met

  • Designs solid, robust and extensible data warehouse system, and prepares data to support key business flows

  • Defines standardization and reuse opportunities, abstractions and patterns across classes, and components to streamline design and development of data integration solutions

  • Determines data mapping tools and techniques; reviews and highlights process improvement opportunities

  • Partners with senior management across the organization to develop data infrastructure methodology for Ameren

  • Takes an active role in determining overall data modeling/warehousing strategies, and helps define and direct the continuing evolution of the data engineering discipline to meet the changing business needs of the enterprise

  • Communicates with various business areas to gather and prioritize their business requirements

  • Monitors the effectiveness and performance of data engineering solutions and services to the business and directs efforts to continually improve business value

  • Leads the development and enhancement of enterprise-wide data engineering solutions in support of the Digital organization’s objectives

  • Manages stakeholders across multiple functions to implement the models into production and monitors their performance

  • Acts as data engineering lead on agile teams, leads and guides team members on development practices in agile environments; collaborates with scrum masters and coaches to move projects forward

  • Coaches co-workers and provides feedback to enhance skills and knowledge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science or business

  • 7+ years of relevant experience

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Deep expertise and experience in building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and datasets from structured datasets from on premise data warehouses (Teradata) using Informatica IDR to cloud-based data lake structures in AWS (S3, Redshift, etc).

  • Deep expertise in utility specific data such as AMI, CSS, and MDMS

  • Deep expertise in data organization and design principles for enterprise data warehouses (EDW), data marts and data lakes

  • Deep technical expertise and experience with building sustainable, scalable processes that support data transformation, structures, metadata, accuracy checking and workload management

  • Deep knowledge of cloud architecture

  • Deep experience with big data querying tools such as Informatica BDM and Apache Spark

  • Expertise in agile and project methodologies and processes

  • Strong analytical and creative thinking to address complex business problems
