Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assessing the technical viability of emerging products and technologies.

  • Working with developers and infrastructure specialists to test and evaluate new technologies.

  • Participating in the development of business cases and obtaining approvals for capital expenditures.

  • Monitoring and analyzing new technology product performance and resolving issues regarding potential improvements or modifications to complex situations, as needed.

This is a Non-Employee Contingent Worker Role providing services for TIAA’s family of companies and will be employed by TIAA's preferred 3rd Party Supplier. As a Non-Employee CW, perform a variety of moderately complex business planning, support, and project-related duties. Demonstrates an exceptional standard of quality and holds themselves accountable to achieving excellent results.

This role is located at our TIAA office in Charlotte NC, Iselin, NJ – full time virtual in Eastern or Central US time zone. but will be currently remote

The anticipated term of this engagement will be 12 months. This term could be extended based on company business needs.

Job Title Title: Senior Cobol Developer

The TIAA Financial Solutions (TFS) team within TIAA is searching for a motivated, enthusiastic, proactive team player to support its Client Transitions team. The team’s mission is to provide IT assistance, guidance, and delivery of client transitions projects (Asset Takeovers, Deconversions, bulk money movement events). The team will build and execute custom-to-the-client code to deliver best-in-class service for these transition projects. This is highly dynamic client focused delivery that requires a person who can adapt to change, work flexible hours to support client transitions, and deliver excellence first time, every time.


  • Interpret specifications, develop, and test COBOL code to create Omni transactions required to convert indicative and financial data from external record keepers to Omni platform, or complete internal bulk transactions (money move, enrollment, etc)

  • Execute Omni Batch edit and post processes. Identify and resolve errors

  • Strong ability to analyze functional needs and develop error free code – first time.

  • Analyzes complex mapping and plan constructs to develop application components

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with IT analysts and business Data Leads

Required Skills:

  • 5 plus years working with SunGard’s Omni DC Recordkeeping System

  • 5 plus years working in the Defined Contribution industry

  • 10 plus years - Strong proficiency in developing with COBOL within a mainframe environment

  • Experience working in a mainframe environment, including knowledge of JCL, VSAM, IBM utilities, etc

  • Strong proficiency with Omni DC transaction and batch processing

  • Strong proficiency with OmniStation

  • Strong proficiency in the SunGard's Omni DC package

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a virtual team.

  • Ability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours as necessary to meet client commitments.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong proficiency with COBOL, OS/JCL, VSAM, IBM utilities, Mainframe Sort, CA7

  • Strong Proficiency with Omni AdminWeb a plus

  • Proficiency with OmniScript a plus

  • Proficiency with mainframe DB2 & CICS

Minimum Pay: $79.05
