Serve as a key team member in the Technology Architecture team to create and maintain portions of the overall Enterprise Architecture Strategy and Technology Portfolio for Sun Life Financial US. This role will be a key contributor throughout the entire technology and application portfolio lifecycle to ensure overall alignment with business and IT strategies including technology research, proof of concept, decision and negotiation, governance approvals, alignment with project needs/constraints, roadmaps, standards, as well as sunset planning .
Application and Technology Portfolio Management: Ensure regular maintenance of the Sun Life Technology Portfolio, including SLF U.S software vendors, technology and application inventories. Responsible for leading acquisition of new technologies at Sun Life US, ongoing vendor management and maintenance of software/technology relationships, developing appropriate technology roadmaps, risk mitigation, and renewal/retirement strategies
Technology Strategy & Research: Contribute to the Technical vision for the Enterprise. Articulate the technical vision into a sequence of affordable, incremental and realistic project plans and roadmaps that align to the IT Strategy and traceable to the business plan. Monitor industry trends and markets, identify disruptive technology opportunities, and interpret research into executive reports. Inform IT Leaders and Executives of key technology trends and emerging technologies that have relevance to Sun Life’s IT Strategy.
Proof of Concepts & Innovation: Coordinate the construction of pilots, prototypes or proof-of-concepts from a technical standpoint, aiming at experimenting and adapt/adjust/adopt new standards and technologies.
Governance: Ensure proper stakeholder reviews and lead technology approvals through the technology lifecycle as well as alignment to Sun Life architecture, Security, and Technology standard policies and processes.
Technology Leadership: Represent specific U.S. Technology concerns at enterprise review boards as well as within projects to influence key Architecture decisions and collaborate to establish standards.
Global Collaboration: Collaborate and facilitate discussions across a global multi-site organization in the US, Canada, and Ireland with key team members in IT, Legal, Security, Business Partners, and Project Team Members
Presentation & Communication: Build and present business cases, technology insights and architecture roadmaps at all levels including senior executive leaders, business partners, and within project teams
Vendor Management: Key contributor and leader for managing vendor negotiations in collaboration with Sourcing, Legal, IT, Security and project team members across a variety of software technologies.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
Strong communication and presentation skills including written, verbal, and visual diagramming
Technology fluency across a broad range of technologies as well as a passion for staying on top of new trends in the industry
Ability to multi-task effectively and balance a wide variety of competing priorities independently
Demonstrated experience with critical thinking, problem solving, and consulting skills
5 years previous experience in software architecture, enterprise architecture or equivalent software design/development
- Previous experience in Insurance, Finance, or a related field.
